Hey guys! (I really want to try to find a new way to start these posts because I feel like it's always the same😂😂But for now it will have to do) Anyways, happy (a little late) 2019!!!! We've made it to a new year! I think what I love most about the new year is how God's love and mercy doesn't just stop each year and return, but instead continues to flow onto the next! Joshua 1:9 says that God is always with us wherever we go, and that is something to rejoice about this new year!
The thing with this, is that when we make plans for ourselves without remembering to check them with God, we don't really know where to start. So we just tend to thrust ourselves towards whatever comes our way, doing this, doing that, seeing what works best. And that doesn't sound very full-proof. Just think about this: Imagine that you're in a new city, and you're going to drive to this super cool new restaurant everyone's been talking about. But the thing is, you don't know how to get there. You don't know any street names, paths, anything. So what are you going to do? Drive around aimlessly until you get there? That could work, maybe. But it'll take you so much longer, and take a lot more of your energy along the way. The smarter thing, would be to plug in the directions into your GPS and let that guide you.
As this new year continues, we tend to make plans. And I don't know about y'all, but I always make plans, BIG plans. And I get so so SO excited about these plans, so much that they start to get kind of jumbled in my head. Because I get so excited, I don't know where to start. And as you can imagine, that could get very confusing.

You see, God is like that for us. He is our GPS in life. Proverbs 16:9 says, "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps." We might plan where we want to go, but it is God who leads us. And with reason! He has your whole life mapped out! He knows what your going to do for your next birthday, the day of your wedding, what the name of your first child will be! He is all-powerful, and all-knowing, and who better to lead you, than the one who created you and calls you by name?
See I was reading the book of Esther and I thought of something. (Perfect time to swing by and read it if you haven't! Super good stuff! But just in case your quick on time-a recap. Young Jewish Esther has been chosen as queen of Persia by King Xerxes. But there's a catch to the story: King Xerxes has ordered a law to get rid of all Jewish people on a certain day, as a plot of his greedy official named Haman. However, Esther's cousin Mordecai hears of the plots and tells Esther to stop the king. Esther knows its the right thing to do, but is worried because anyone that goes to the king, even his wife, without being summoned, could be killed, unless the king allows it by stretching out his staff. But she goes anyway, and King Xerxes allows it, and she is able to save her people. Woo! That was a long one, but a good one. Amen!)
Anyways, something that I find very interesting about this story is that after Esther decided that yes, she would approach the King, she didn't just jump out with her plan and do things right away. Instead, she asked all the Jews of the city to pray and to fast, that God may deliver them. She brought her plans to God first, and laid them at His feet. Plugging in her GPS! And the Lord was with her, and gave her the confidence and direction she needed to carry out her plan!
As this first month of the New Year continues, I encourage you to ask yourself, what are you doing to honor God with your plans today?
Thanks so much for reading y'all! May 2019 be a year full of blessings and great new opportunities to share God's love with others!
"And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" (Esther 5: 14)
