Winning like David

The story of David and Goliath is a big one in the Bible, and one of my personal favorites. Seeing how the young shepard boy was able to defeat the giant and mighty Goliath really teaches us more about our faith and dependence in God.

But, there is another lesson here that is often overlooked. And it's a very important one. Before we start, I want to ask y'all a question: how many times this week have you let the opinions of others sway your decisions? I know that we can all have this happen to us, but sometimes it seems as though we're constantly looking at the approval of other's before we do something.

Let's take a look at David. (If you haven't already, then you should totally go ahead and read the story of David and Goliath found in 1 Samuel 17 It's seriously an amazing story.) So here we have David, a young, small, not military-trained shepherd boy, who thought that he could defeat the giant Goliath. Crazy right?!?! Goliath is said to have been over 9 feet tall, with a sword weighing 15 pounds! (1 Samuel 17:4,7) Now tell me, do you think that it was reasonable for David to think that he could defeat this guy? That it was logical? No way it wasn't!! But God has showed us time and time again that He doesn't work by reason or logic, but by faith.

David constantly had people tell him that he couldn't fight the Philistine giant, "Saul replied, 'You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth." (1 Samuel 17:33 NIV) Even the king at the time didn't believe that David could do it. But David didn't care what the King thought, because he knew that what the King Of Glory, the King above all Kings, is what truly matters. With Him by his side, he is unstoppable, and so are we.

This week, I want to encourage all of us to stop listening to the voices and distractions in this world and start to listen to HIS voice. He has called you His, you are a pearl in His eyes, and with him, YOU are unstoppable.

Thanks for reading, and remember that YOU are loved
Dulce Vida
